Soccer management franchise FIFA Manager is no more following a decision by publisher Electronic Arts to cancel plans for any future entries in the series, it was announced by title founder Gerald Kohler in an open letter.
The decision is the result of the limited interest in the niche series, in addition to the general trend toward online and mobile gaming, writes Kohler in the post, adding that the game is played primarily in England and Germany and is being pushed out of the market by the more popular Football Manager franchise.
According to Kohler, the development team believes the only way to boost the series is to incorporate a new engine or corresponding online technology. "When all these factors were evaluated, it led us to the decision to blow the final whistle," he writes.
FIFA Manager 14, the EA Sports title which launched for Windows PC in late October 2013, will be the last entry in the series.
