Military game developer Wargaming.net is opening a new studio in Seattle that will make mobile games, reports GamesBeat.
The new studio, which does not have a name yet, will be headed up by David Bluhm, the co-founder of mobile game developer Z2. It's unclear if the company will work on free-to-play games — a business model with which Wargaming.net has found tremendous success through World of Tanks and other titles — but Bluhm told GamesBeat, "We think mobile games is still a relatively new space with massive upside," and added that the mobile space is "ripe for innovative and new core game mechanics."
Wargaming.net's games are available on Windows PC and are on their way to consoles, but the studio hasn't made a hard push into mobile games, although it's working on World of Tanks Blitz on iOS and Android. The company's new Seattle branch will be separate from Wargaming Seattle, the subsidiary formerly known as Gas Powered Games that Wargaming.net acquired earlier this year. Wargaming Seattle is working on a new free-to-play MMO.
