You can buy Dota 2 DLC to grow MLG Championship prize pool

Dota 2 developer Valve has teamed up with Major League Gaming to give players a role in deciding the prize pool for the Dota 2 tournament at the upcoming MLG Championship, the competitive-gaming organization announced today.

The game's store now offers the MLG Championship Bundle, a package that includes the Scalehound Courier, Stronghold HUD skin and Tethered Sentinel Ward. In addition, buyers will be eligible for in-game drops for the duration of the MLG Championship and will get a Battle Point bonus through the end of the tournament on Nov. 24.

What's more, 25 percent of the bundle's purchase price — $2.50 out of its total cost of $9.99 — will go directly into the prize pool for the Dota 2 tournament at the event. The pool started at $50,000, and according to MLG, purchases of the bundle raised the value to $75,000 within 12 hours, which means that players have bought at least 10,000 of the DLC packs so far.

The 2013 MLG Championship will run from Nov. 22-24 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.
