Gabe Newell promotes Hour of Code campaign, EA throws in support

Valve Corporation's managing director Gabe Newell and Electronic Arts recently threw their support behind CODE.org's Hour of Code campaign.

The campaign encourages students to spend an hour each day learning the basics of software coding via CODE.org's online tutorials. Newell lent his support to the cause by spending half an hour answering questions from student participants about his own coding experience and history (video above).

Game developer and publisher EA also announced this week that elementary and middle school students who complete the 20 hour online training course are eligible to receive one of four games from EA's platform, Origin. Among the titles are Bejeweled 3, FIFA Soccer 13, Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition and Plants vs. Zombies on PC.

The Hour of Code program can be accessed here.
