Need for Speed Rivals players can now add the 2014 Ford Mustang — which was revealed by Ford earlier this month — to their game with a free title update, developer Ghost Games announced on the official Need for Speed website.
The vehicle is included in the latest free patch, which went live this past weekend. The 2015 Mustang's inclusion is the result of a partnership between publisher Electronic Arts and manufacturer Ford that will allow players to drive the car prior to its street launch date in 2014.
Alongside the 2015 Mustang, players will get access to a Ford garage as a Racer hide-out, three Ford driving achievements and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 as a cop car. Players will also get five new liveries, four community-created ones and a fifth designed by Vaughn Gittin Jr., Mustang RTR founder.
Mustangs have been included in the Need for Speed franchise since 2005's Need for Speed Most Wanted, where the Ford Mustang Boss 302 was included as a car players could find in-game. Need for Speed Rivals also includes the Mustang "hero car" featured in the upcoming Need for Speed movie.
"We worked closely with EA to provide engineering data for the new Mustang, several months before we showed it to the rest world," Ford licensing manager Mark Bentley said in a statement on the website. "The computer design models enabled the game developers to create an accurate representation of the new Mustang."
Need for Speed Rivals launched on Nov. 15 for PlayStation 4, Nov. 19 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC and for Xbox One on Nov. 22
