Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is hosting its own set of holiday events throughout the month of December, tasking players with hunting down and rescuing a horde of kidnapped snowmen.
According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the Starlight Celebration — held annually in the Final Fantasy 11 world of Vana'diel since 2004 and in Final Fantasy 14's Eorzea — will start today and be held until Dec. 31, 2013. The promised festivities include visitation by a retinue of snowmen, but someone has hijacked them along their journey south. Players must solve the mystery of the snowman-nappers, rescue them and get them to the celebration.
Rewards for completing the task include winter garb designed to look like snowmen, reindeer and Santa Claus's red and white suit, as well as reindeer barding for chocobos.
This holiday content follows Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn's most recent patch, which added four-versus-four PvP, the 24-person Crystal Tower raid and a handful of new dungeons, primal battles and daily beast tribe quests. The game launched in August for PlayStation 3 and Windows PC and is slated to hit PlayStation 4 in April, 2014.
