CyberFront, publisher of numerous western games in Japan including Telltale's The Walking Dead and Valve's Portal games, will be dissolved, the company announced in an official statement.
The decision was made late yesterday during a meeting of the company's board. According to the statement, this past March saw major management changes following a buyout by Kaga Electronics, a major electronics manufacturing and exporting firm.
Kaga — parent company to Taxan, the U.S. division of which handled publication for several Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System titles including the original 1981 Fist of the North Star game — purchased 51 percent of CyberFront's stock in 2010. CyberFront's dissolution statement suggests that since then, the company has had difficulty rebuilding its business.
CyberFront's most recent publications were retail PlayStation 3 and Windows PC versions of Telltale's The Walking Dead on Dec. 5. The company's remaining announced and unpublished title, Japanese developer Experience's PlayStation Vita role-playing game Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss, is due out on Jan. 23, 2104. CyberFront's plans for the game as well as the rest of its catalogue are currently unknown.
