RuneScape gets companion web app for chatting

Jagex Games Studio's massively-multiplayer online role-playing game RuneScape received a companion web app today, which allows players to chat with their friends without needing to log into the full game.

Being a web app, players won't need to install it from an app store. Instead, players can access it on their mobile phone, tablet or PC by visiting the game's companion app page and logging in using their account details.

The web app current allows players to access Friends Chat, Clan Chat and Private Messages from the game. More features are expected to roll out in 2014.

The web app supports most Android devices and iPhone 4 upwards — full list can be viewed here. Jagex notes that the web app is still being worked on, so it doesn't yet perform reliably on certain devices.
