Total War: Rome 2 trailer ambushes you in the Teutoburg Forest

Total War: Rome 2's depiction of ancient history includes a recreation of the real-life Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, which is the subject of a new trailer released today by publisher Sega.

The battle took place in A.D. 9 and resulted in a terrible defeat for the Roman Empire. Arminius, who had been raised in Rome, betrayed the Roman general Varus — he united a number of Germanic tribes and ambushed the imperial army in the Teutoburg Forest, decimating the Roman Legion over the course of a three-day battle and forever halting Rome's attempted expansion into Germania.

The trailer shows off some of Rome 2's ambush cutscenes. You can check out the first gameplay footage in a trailer Sega released in September.

Total War: Rome 2 launches later this year on Windows PC.
