EA launches Origin on Mac today, select titles support dual-platform play with PC

Origin, Electronic Arts' digital content delivery platform, is now available worldwide for Mac users, the company announced today.

Origin's Mac version includes abilities native to the platform's Windows PC version, including cloud storage and saving and social connectivity features. Select EA titles will also now be available for dual-platform play; players using both Windows PC and Mac can purchase a game once and download it for both systems, provided the game is compatible.

EA's Mac Origin catalogue launches today with several first and third-party titles, including Batman: Arkham City, Dragon Age 2 and Lego: Harry Potter. The company is also running a promotional offer with the The Sims 3, offering the base title and various expansion packs for $10 each.

EA recommends Mac users run origin Origin on OS X 10.6.8 or higher.

"Our vision with Origin is to connect your gaming universe online, and today we're taking a major step in expanding our service to reach Mac-based gamers worldwide," said Origin vice president of production Michael Blank. "In delivering great game content, connecting the Origin service across PC, Mac and iOS devices, and offering great value to gamers with dual-platform play on select EA titles, Origin is making it easier than ever before for gamers to connect and play anytime, anywhere."

Last summer EA announced that it would be bringing its Origin platform to Mac. The service went into alpha on Mac two weeks ago, with the company stating a full release would be coming "soon."
