Dreamfall Chapters Kickstarter drive concludes with more than $1.5M raised

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

The Kickstarter campaign for Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey concluded yesterday with a total of $1,538,425 in contributions from 21,858 backers, and series creator Ragnar Tornquist thanked the backers in a Kickstarter update.

"Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. We are grateful and humbled, inspired by your support and belief in this project and in us," said Tornquist, founder and creative director of Red Thread Games, the studio formed by Tornquist and core members of the original Longest Journey team for Dreamfall Chapters. The final total is almost 81 percent more than the studio's initial goal of $850,000.

Since the funding drive reached the $1.5 million stretch goal, Red Thread will be able to make the "director's cut" of the game, which will include content that had to be cut for the original budget as well as a commentary track from Tornquist. The company is still accepting contributions on its website through PayPal, for interested parties who missed out on the Kickstarter campaign.

Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is set for release on Windows, Mac and Linux in November 2014.
