Amazon U.K. has cut the price of the Basic and Premium versions of the Wii U by £50 each, matching similar price drops recently posted by retailer Asda, according to CVG.
On Amazon U.K., the Basic bundle now sells for £199, down from £249, while the Premium version of the console is selling for £249, down from £299. CVG reports that the trade price for the Wii U's basic model stands at £205, meaning at its new price, each console is being sold at a loss by Asda and Amazon.
During an investor's briefing in January, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated Nintendo was not planning on officially cutting the price of the Wii U, as it was already selling the console "below its manufacturing cost."
