Graphics card maker Nvidia's research lead for PhysX has released a tech demo showing its new "dynamic fracture" technology to render environmental destruction on the fly.
The demo shows a stately Greek-esque temple being systematically and gradually destroyed every time it's clicked, particularly focusing on the simulation of the rigid bodies and dust clouds.
In response to a comment posted to the video on YouTube, research lead Matthias Müller-Fischer acknowledged that structures do not currently collapse under their own weight — in the video, the roof stays standing even after the pillars have been shot out under it — but said that the software "will soon have this."
The tech demo was run on a solo GTX 680 at 30 frames per second.
