Sony sees four-fold PS Vita sales increase in Japan after price cut

New, comments

Sales of the PlayStation Vita in Japan have jumped by a factor of four after the handheld's 20 percent price cut, said Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano, Game Watch reports.

Sony cut the PS Vita's price in Japan from 24,980 yen ($268.31) to 19,980 yen ($214.47) on Feb. 28. Speaking during a One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 presentation, Kawano said that sales have increased four-fold in the past week, compared to the two-week period prior to the price cut.

During an interview on the morning after the PlayStation 4 announcement last month, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said Sony had no plans to make a similar price cut in North America.
