Torment: Tides of Numenera surpasses Kickstarter goal on its first day

New, comments

Torment: Tides of Numenera, InXile Entertainment's spiritual successor to the old-school role-playing game Planescape: Torment, surpassed its $900,000 funding goal today, just hours after beginning the fundraising drive.

As of this writing, the Kickstarter campaign has $900,695 in pledges from 16,921 backers. Both numbers continue to rise. Fifteen backers have pledged in the $1,000 tier, two each have pledged in the $2,000 and $5,000 tiers and five backers have pledged 10,000 or more. A pledge of $20 will get backers a DRM-free download of the game for Windows PC, Mac or Linux.

This is the developer's second successful Kickstarter campaign. Last year's crowdfunding drive for Wasteland 2 ended with nearly $3 million from 61,290 backers, well in excess of its original $900,000 goal.

Polygon spoke with InExile's project director and creative lead recently about the game, its influences and the studio's plan to upend the traditional publisher/developer funding model through crowdfunding, so be sure to check out our article.
