Nintendo discontinuing several Wii channels on June 28 in Japan and Australia

Beginning June 28, Nintendo will cease the operation of several Wii channels and services in Japan and Australia, the company announced today.

The affected channels for both regions are Everybody Votes Channel, Check Mii Out Channel, Forecast Channel, News Channel, Nintendo Channel and the Japan-only Digicam Print Channel.

According to Nintendo of Japan and Nintendo of Australia, data exchange between Wii friends via WiiConnect24 will also end on the June date. Because of this, users will no longer be able to share messages on the Wii Message Board, exchange Mii characters on the soon to be defunct Mii Channel and "some games" will have data and message exchange functionality disabled.

"... the above services will no longer be available even if they are started up from the Wii Menu," the Australian press release states. "However, services other than those mentioned above, such as the Wii Shop Channel and 'Today's Accomplishments' on the Wii Message Board, will remain available."
