Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse 'reimagining' coming to PSN, XBLA and Steam this summer

A high-definition "reimagining" of Sega Genesis title Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse will be released through PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and Steam this summer, Sega announced today in a new trailer for the title.

The "2D/3D game" is in development with Sega's Australian studio, according a post on the PlayStation Blog by Sega senior digital brand manager Mai Kawaguchi. It will be a "fully reimagined experience" featuring new content, but "maintains the Disney magic that the original Castle of Illusion captured in 1990."

"We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn't be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles," wrote Kawaguchi, adding that the game still uses many of its original "iconic" elements.

Check out the trailer posted above for a first look at the HD remake of Castle of Illusion. The list of platforms can be seen at the end of the European PEGI version of the trailer.

A remake of the Genesis classic was hinted at least week, when VG Leaks posted allegedly leaked marketing materials for the game's digital release through Xbox Live Arcade. A teaser trailer showing the game's familiar landscape and villain was released last Friday.

Update: Sega has confirmed in a post on the company blog that Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse will be available worldwide for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
