Blizzard details $1.6M StarCraft 2 World Championship Series

The 2013 StarCraft 2 World Championship Series will feature a $1.6 million prize pool, Blizzard revealed in a post that also details the series format, residency options and points system.

The 2013 championship prize pool totals $1.6 million over the year, with regional league seasons each allocated $100,000 in prize money and an additional $150,000 will be given to the Cross-Region Season Finals event. A prize pool of $250,000 will be distributed amongst successful competitors in the 2013 global finals, held at BlizzCon in November.

Also outlined are plans to abolish residency requirements for competitors in favor of introducing offline studio matches within a players region to encourage players to a choose a region as a base by having them train and reside within that region.
