Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies, the latest entry in the Layton series, is coming to Nintendo 3DS in North America in 2014, Nintendo's Satoru Iwata announced today in a Nintendo Direct presentation.
Azran Legacies is the sixth Layton game and the third part of of the franchise's prequel trilogy. It will also be the last game to feature Layton as the main protagonist. Players follow Layton and his assistant Emmy to a snow-laden town in answer to reports of a "living mummy." There they meet a girl who is the last of an ancient race, freeing her from an icy prison. The girl, Aria, will lead them on a global chase for answers to the riddles surrounding the mysterious Azran civilization.
Gameplay is similar to previous title The Miracle Mask, in which players use the 3DS touchscreen to solve puzzles and complete challenges on the upper screen. Players can look forward to more than 500 puzzles in this latest game.
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacies launched in Japan on Feb. 28.
