World of Tanks recently suffered a "security incident," and developer Wargaming.net is now encouraging players to change their passwords, with the incentive of free in-game gold for doing so.
"We recently became aware that some personal information may have been compromised due to a security incident," Wargaming.net announced today. According to the company, no financial information was accessed in the breach, but users' email addresses and hashed (not plain text) passwords may have been released.
As a result, Wargaming.net is launching a campaign, the Change Your Password Event, in which it is offering players a one-time payment of 300 gold for updating their password. Users can change their password on the account management page, and will receive their free gold within 24 hours.
