First Planetary Annihilation gameplay video lives up to its namesake, dev announces May alpha

In a nearly 20-minute long video posted today on YouTube, Uber Entertainment revealed the first gameplay footage from its upcoming real-time strategy game Planetary Annihilation.

Check out the video above to see art director Steve Thompson and creative lead Jon Mavor play a pre-alpha version of the game, from a stream that was originally broadcast Friday afternoon. Staying true to its name, the game allows players to zoom far enough into see the rocks surrounding the characters and out far enough to see the entire planet.

At the end of the video, Mavor announces that the game's alpha testing will begin "at the end of May." The developer will open the alpha to those who backed Planetary Annihilation on Kickstarter and have pre-ordered the game, with the earliest backers getting in first and the highest dollar backers taking priority in those groups.

Uber took to Kickstarter last year to raise funds for Planetary Annihilation, gathering $2.2 million in pledges, well in excess of its $900,000 funding goal. The game is scheduled to be released for Windows PC, Mac and Linux in July 2013.
