Woodbury, New Jersey-based independent developer Island Officials launched a crowdfunding project recently for Orion's Odyssey: A Pattern Blocks Adventure, a hybrid comedy/puzzle game for Nintendo DS, according to the game's Kickstarter page.
If funded, the game will follow Orion the alien robot as he uses his "fantastic ability to construct any object he can think of." His sidekick Ryan, "a hyperactive seven-year old with a thirst for adventure," joins him as they team up to solve puzzles and meet characters over 10 levels.
Orion's Odyssey: A Pattern Blocks Adventure will divvy up the game between multiple modes. In Adventure Mode, Orion lives on the DS' top screen while players solve puzzles on the bottom. Free-play Mode will allow players to earn rewards by solving previous puzzles. Challenge Mode will crank up the difficulty for the "hardcore puzzle aficionado," while Sandbox Mode will let players create their own patterns with the stylus and touchscreen.
According to the Kickstarter page, Island Officials has been working on the project for two years and has partnered with a publisher to help it "get through the process of submission." The Kickstarter funding goal is based on Island Officials' estimate for Nintendo's certification, review for an ESRB rating and costs for cartridges, boxes, manuals, shipping and more.
