CCP Games, the studio behind Eve Online, is sponsoring a new post at Reykjavik University's School of Computer Science for a professor of interactive storytelling and game design, reports News of Iceland.
According to Reykjavik University's listing for the position, CCP will sponsor the position for at least five years. News of Iceland reports that the studio will contribute 10 million Icelandic kronur ($85,414) to fund the post, although the school and the studio promise that "full academic freedom is respected." Reykjavik University's School of Computer Science is hiring for the position as part of a new focus on game development within its undergraduate computer science program.
"We are interested in an ambitious, highly qualified academic who can combine innovative teaching and cutting-edge research in the rapidly evolving area of interactive digital entertainment within our school," the job listing reads. "We are particularly interested in active researchers who see opportunities in breaking new ground with CCP and with existing faculty within Reykjavik University."
The professor will be expected to teach game design theory and combine it with game development in practice, and Reykjavik University added that knowledge of technical aspects of game design, such as programming and engine architecture, "is a significant benefit." A Ph.D. in a "relevant area" is required.
