The long-in-development Gears of War movie may have new life in producer Scott Stuber, who Variety reports has joined the project to produce and develop a script in conjunction with Epic Games.
Variety reports that the movie adaptation of the Xbox 360 game still doesn't have a director, cast or writer — screenwriters Stuart Beattie and others penned scripts for the property's former home, New Line Cinema. But Stuber has a deal with Universal to consider the property for production and potentially finance it during its development period.
IMDB lists Stuber's producer credits on films such as Battleship, Ted, Safe House and the upcoming 47 Ronin.
Creative Artists Agency began shopping the Gears of War movie around Hollywood in October after the project went into turnaround at New Line. The adaptation had been in the works since 2007 under director Len Wiseman (Underworld, Total Recall) but later had its production budget slashed before slipping into development hell.
