Dynasty Warriors 8 coming July 16 to PS3 and Xbox 360

Dynasty Warriors 8, the next entry in Tecmo Koei's long-running historical hack-and-slash franchise, will launch July 16 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America and on July 12 in Europe, the company announced today.

Tecmo Koei released the game in Japan exclusively on PS3 in February.

As usual, the game's Story Mode will take players through battles between the Wei, Wu, Shu and Jin kingdoms. This time around, Tecmo Koei is aiming to make the campaigns more replayable with multiple endings and "extra modes with synergies between action and game systems," the company said in a press release.

Aside from the Story Mode, which follows the path of fact, Dynasty Warriors 8 will feature "What If?" scenarios. The game will present alternate-history sequences to give players an idea of what might have happened if certain legendary Chinese generals hadn't died when they did. Players will get to see different scenarios depending on the choices they make.

Characters new to the Dynasty Warriors series include Yue Jin and Li Dian of the Wei kingdom; they'll be available within a roster of more than 70 playable heroes. Tecmo Koei also says Dynasty Warriors 8 will offer 40 "completely new" stages with a greater variety of settings. And players will be able to choose English and Japanese voices, with subtitles available in English, French and German, according to the Tecmo Koei Europe Twitter account.
