Torment: Tides of Numenera adds Chris Avellone for successfully reaching $3.5M goal

Torment: Tides of Numenera has passed its $3.5 million funding stretch goal, meaning designer Chris Avellone will join the development team as promised, inXile Entertainment announced today.

The developer has currently railed $3.44 million through Kickstarter and an additional $67,000 through PayPal as of April 1, bringing the total funding for Tides of Numenera just over $3.5 million.

Avellone was the lead designer on Tides of Numenera's spiritual predecessor Planescape: Torment, then later co-founded Obsidian Entertainment where he contributed to every major studio project, including heading design on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Last year he worked with inXile on Wasteland 2.

For Tides of Numenera, Avellone will review all "creative elements" of the game and provide inXile with feedback on story, characters and gameplay, as well as script an eighth in-game companion. InXile notes that Avellone's assistance with Tides of Numenera will not interfere with his work on Project Eternity at Obsidian.

Torment: Tides of Numenera has become the second most-funded video game software of all time on crowdfunding site KIckstarter, just below Obsidian's Project Eternity, which netted $3.98 million.
