Greenlit indie shooter Receiver now on Steam, discounted until May 6

Developer Wolfire Games' handgun shooter, Receiver, is now available through Steam after being approved through Steam Greenlight.

Receiver was developed as part of the 7-Day FPS Challenge, a game jam held last June that gave teams one week to create a first-person shooter. In Wolfire's game, players have access to just three weapons — a Colt 1911 pistol, S&W "Victory" revolver and Glock 17 — and Wolfire has sought to recreate the functions of each as close as possible to their real-life counterparts.

According to the game's listing on Steam, levels are randomly generated and the story is "unordered." Players have only their gun and an audio cassette player, which they must use to unravel the secrets of something called "Mindkill" and take down drones and turrets in a dangerous building complex.

Receiver, normally available for $4.99, will be available at a 20 percent discount for $3.99 until May 6. Check out the video above for a look at Receiver in action.
