The developers behind indie sci-fi roguelikes Strange Adventures in Infinite Space and Weird Words: Return to Infinite Space have launched a Kickstarter for the third installment in the series, Infinite Space 3: Sea of Stars.
The Infinite Space games, developed and self-published for Windows PC and Mac by Digital Eel, are space-set roguelikes in which players assume missions that take them across expansive starmaps that regenerate with new content each time the game is played. Players will encounter stars, planets, black holes and other lifeforms on their travels.
Infinite Space 3 will build on the world created in the first two games as well as add new content and gameplay. The game is designed for one player and features a turn-based navigation system mixed with real-time combat elements. Like in the previous games, the starmap will randomly generate each time players start the game and there is no way to access previous saves — once you complete a map, your actions will affect all future generated starmaps.
"Discovering the interactions between items, alien races, characters and random events will keep you busy for years — yet each session of the game is a complete adventure that you can finish in one sitting," reads the Kickstarter page. "To extend the game's longevity even further, we encourage people to make mods and even provide tools for it."
Digital Eel is currently asking for $30,000 to complete development on Infinite Space 3. The developer notes that the money raised through Kickstarter will allow it to finish the game this year for Windows PC.
