Guild Wars 2 expansion pack is being 'prepared,' says NCsoft

A Guild Wars 2 expansion pack is underway, MMO publisher NCsoft revealed in its recent earnings report.

The publisher confirmed during an earnings call it is "preparing an expansion pack." What this will comprise of was not revealed, while a company representative added that no launch date has been decided on.

This news follows repeated statements to the contrary from developer ArenaNet. The studio said as recently as March 2013 it was not developing an expansion for the game.

According to NCsoft's earnings report, Guild Wars 2 accounted for 21 percent of sales during the first quarter of 2013. Comparatively, the original Lineage made up 28 percent of sales, Aion made up 16 percent of sales and Blade and Soul made up nine percent.

The publisher saw a decrease in sales across North America and Europe. These regions made up only 13 percent, while the biggest draw came from Korea which made up 64 percent of all sales.

Even with this Western decrease, sales and net income were up when compared to the same period last year. Compared to the last fiscal year, sales were up 31 percent in this quarter, while net income was up 322 percent. However, according to its earnings report, sales slipped by 35 percent in comparison to Q4 2012, while net income was down 49 percent.

We have contacted NCsoft for further comment on this new expansion and will update if more information becomes available.
