GT Academy is an annual "virtual-to-reality" competition in which the best Gran Turismo players compete for a shot at becoming a real race car driver for Nissan. This year, Nissan and Sony will run GT Academy in Europe, the U.S., Germany, Russia, the Middle East and South Africa.
The international final race will take place at the Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, U.K., a location that will appear in the Gran Turismo series for the first time with Gran Turismo 6. Sony and Polyphony Digital officially announced the game today during an event at the race track.
"GT Academy is a fitting platform for the Gran Turismo community to preview [Gran Turismo 6] for the first time, as we aim to bring the worlds of virtual and reality closer than ever," said Kazunori Yamauchi, president of Polyphony Digital, on the PlayStation Blog.
