The video game images Avalanche Studios founder Christofer Sundberg posted on Instagram earlier this year were from a "steampunk-style" sandbox game the studio was working on, according to an interview with Edge Online.
"They were from a steampunk-style game we had in development that we put on ice," Sundberg told Edge Online. "I really love that art style, and to combine it with sandbox gameplay is a dream of mine. Fortunately, being an independent developer I can control my own destiny and we'll make something in that world sooner or later."
In February, Sundberg tweeted a link to a screenshot on Instagram of a man power-kicking another person off a motorbike. Two weeks later, he posted another image on Instagram of a leather jacket-clad man launching himself out of an aircraft. The teased game was speculated to be either the third Just Cause game or a Mad Max title.
The Just Cause 2 developer revealed earlier this month that it was close to signing a deal to develop a "massive Star Wars open-world game."
