The Last of Us live-action web series tribute launches first episode

Production company Manifest Film released the first episode of its web series inspired by the fungal-apocalyptic world of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.

What Remains is set 10 years after the fungal outbreak that turns human into the Infected and 10 years before the events of The Last of Us.

The series focuses on the development and relationships of the three main characters. Alex is searching for her brother who has built up a unique resistance to the fungus. David is a loner who chose to survive outside the survival colonies and holds the belief that humanity will prevail. Andre, Alex's brother, can "walk on both sides of the line between human and the infection" and serves to give the audience a perspective of the fungal outbreak.

Manifest Film first teased the web series in February. At the time, writer and director Anthony Pietromonaco told Polygon that it was a good opportunity to get involved with the video game community and that they hoped that Naughty Dog "will embrace our efforts."
