World of Tanks Blitz similar to its PC counterpart, still an independent experience, says dev

Free-to-play mobile MMO World of Tanks Blitz may seem similar its PC-based "elder brother," but the developers say the scaled-down game is still a completely independent experience, according to the most recent episode of Wargaming News.

According to technical director and producer Vitaliy Borodovsky, World of Tanks Blitz features a new interface and more "comfortable" controls tailored specifically to mobile touchscreens. Players will participate in tactical combat that has been designed to allow both veteran World of Tanks players and newcomers to learn the controls quickly.

Borodovsky says the team at Wargaming hopes to make Blitz as competitive as its console cousin. Users will be able to communicate via "a different social media" for World of Tanks Blitz, thought what that may be is still currently unclear. Players will also be able to make platoons of tanks for each others' use.

World of Tanks Blitz, Wargaming's first title for smartphones and tablets, was announced during the 2013 Game Developers Conference in March. The game will launch on iOS and Android at an undetermined date. Check out the video above for a look at the game in action.
