The Last of Us actor Ashley Johnson discusses the oddities of acting 'with a sock on your head'

Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in Naughty Dog's upcoming The Last of Us, said it took some time to get used to acting in a motion capture suit for a video game, according to an interview on the PlayStation Blog.

The Last of Us was Johnson's first experience acting with motion capture equipment. She said it was "definitely difficult at first to get over the fact that you're wearing this really strange suit," but she acclimated in time.

"Sometimes when you're playing a character, how you're dressed or what shoes you have on, that changes the way you walk and how you act," she said. "So when you have that funny suit on — just a skin-tight jumpsuit — and your hands are covered, and you have a sock on your head, it can be a little challenging at first!

"But a couple of hours in you get used to it. I actually think it helps in a lot of ways. You have to expand your imagination a little bit more, which I think is really good."

The Last of Us is set for a June 14 release on PlayStation 3. For more on the game, be sure to check out Polygon's recent hands-on preview.
