Jagex Games Studio will release free-to-play massively multiplayer online strategy game RuneScape 3 on mobile devices this fall, CEO Mark Gerhard and design director Mark Ogilvie confirmed in an interview with Forbes.
"Tablets and other portable devices are in the future as we extend this ecosystem to any and all connected devices," Ogilvie said to Forbes.
According to Forbes, Gerhard said that Runescape 3 may also see a release on Smart TVs in the near future. The studio's adoption of HTML5 will help allow the browser-based game to be playable on smartphones and tablets.
Executive producer Phil Mansell announced in March that the game's client has been rewritten with HTML5 and Web GL, allowing Jagex to offer gamers overhauled graphics, fully customizable interfaces and upgraded cameras.
Runescape 3 is expected to launch this summer for Windows PC as a single update.
