At its press conference demo for Battlefield 4, Electronic Arts showed off multiplayer level Siege of Shanghai. The 64-player level features multiple vehicular combat including helicopters, jet-skis and parachutes. Also on display was the ability to call-in artillery and tactical support using a tablet.

In the demo, players landed in combat-zone downtown Shanghai, via helicopter, fought through an underground transport system using environmental damage to tactical advantage, across waterways via jet-ski, and then to the top of a skyscraper. Under fire, a player called in heavy artillery using a tablet.

Patrick Bach from developer DICE said that Battlefield 4 is about "emotion, immersion and being connected", and talked about the game's "destructible dynamic environments".

The game utilizes the Frostbite 3 engine, which EA has earmarked as one of its development pillars for the next generation.

Battlefield 4 is set in a near-future war zone in central-Asian and Chinese war zones. Its long-standing tactical 'Commander Mode' features overview maps, allowing the player to issue orders to teammates.

At the Microsoft press conference earlier today, EA announced a DLC pack called Second Assault, which will appear first on for Xbox One.

EA had previously announced that all players who pre-order Battlefield 4 will receive the China Rising expansion pack, which includes four multiplayer maps set in mainland China. Those who pre-order the game's Origin-exclusive Digital Deluxe Edition - which will cost $69.99, $10 more than the standalone game - will also get bonus in-game items and access to the Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta. The beta will be available this fall; EA has already promised access to anybody who pre-ordered last year's Medal of Honor title, Medal of Honor Warfighter, and to all Battlefield Premium members.

Earlier the year , EA showed an extended demo of Battlefield 4, featuring what the company called "human, dramatic and believable human stories.
