Puzzle Pirates out on iPad today, coming to more tablets later this summer

Free-to-play massively multiplayer online game Puzzle Pirates is available today for iPad and will be coming to additional tablets later this summer, Sega-owned studio Three Rings Design announced today.

Puzzle Pirates on iPad will include an updated user interface that has been tweaked for optimal use of touch controls, as well as more than 20 single-player and multiplayer puzzles.

In the game, players explore an open-ended world and cross the oceans, using "pieces of eight" to buy goods and customize their characters, ships and homes. Players can solve puzzles alone or team up on adventures, raiding villages and managing their ship's crew.

"We believe the iPad is a great match for the depth of gameplay available in Puzzle Pirates," game creator and Three Rings CEO Daniel James in a press statement. "Easy to pick up gameplay combine with co-operative teamwork and a rich world to make Puzzle Pirates a game that we know iPad players will enjoy."

To commemorate the launch of Puzzle Pirates on iPad, all purchases of in-game doubloons totaling $9.99 or more include a bonus of 15 percent more doubloons. The offer begins today and will end on Monday, June 24 at 1 p.m. ET. Players can also snag one of two free in-game trinkets during this time: players who log into the desktop version of Puzzle Pirates will get a free Red Apple, while those who sign on to the iPad version will get a Silver Apple. The game's official website notes the same account can sign into both versions and collect both items.

Puzzle Pirates is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store.
