Assassin's Creed 4 director explains everything in the E3 PS4 demo

A new video from Ubisoft features the head of development on Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag commenting on the gameplay demo showcased at Sony's E3 press event.

In the video, Ubisoft's Ashraf Ismail walks the viewer through a sequence in which protagonist Edward Kenway tails a mole from the British navy who has infiltrated the band of pirates that he calls comrades. The sequence begins in the middle of a pirate party, used to show just how the pirates' lawless lifestyle was liberating but crude and filled with debauchery.

As Kenway tails his prey into the jungle, Ismail points out how dense foliage gives the assassin more cover, but also says that the developers wanted to make enemies in Assassin's Creed 4 more difficult to deal with to compensate. When the British infiltrators signal the rest of the navy to attack, Kenway takes to the sea, a transition which Ismail said the developers wanted to make wholly seamless.

This commentated version of the demo is notably missing the momentary freeze near the end of the video that was present in the live version.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is slated to hit current-gen and next-gen platforms this holiday season.
