Grinding Gear Games' action role-playing game Path of Exile is getting a new event packed with single-player challenges as the game moves into its next season, the developer announced on its official forums.
The new "Descent League" event will set players in short-term leagues, or game modes like "Standard" and "Hardcore" that follow specific rules. The "Descent League" events are not connected to the main game. Players will take on a chain of difficult battles against monsters that have been previously seen in other areas of the game.
The event will also include new characters and a new area to explore: an old cathedral on the periphery of the Phrecian Forest area. Within the structure players will find new dungeons and higher-level boss battles. At the end of each level players will be offered two chests; they can choose to open one and score loot.
Grinding Gear Games will monitor players' progress through the cathedral throughout the game's current season, Race Season 3. Players who reach the highest levels of the planned scenario will receive special prizes, although these objects — and the new characters players create — will not cross over into the main game.
Path of Exile is still in development and is currently in open beta.
