Sony's PlayStation Store now includes a channel dedicated to highlighting indie games for PlayStation Vita, an update that follows a similar channel added to the online store for PlayStation 3 in May.
The Indie Games channel for PS Vita arrives alongside the release of Hotline Miami for Sony's handheld (and PS3). In the coming months, it will be home to releases that include Spelunky, Terraria, Flower, Luftrausers, Hohokum, Counter-Spy and more, says Don Mesa, director of product planning and platform software innovation, on the PlayStation Blog.
Currently featured in the Vita Indie Games channel are popular games like Guacamelee!, Thomas Was Alone, Limbo, Sound Shapes, Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack and Retro City Rampage — though some of the titles, like Star Wars Pinball, may stretch the definition of "indie games" beyond traditional thinking.
In all, the new indie game-focused channel launched with 53 titles, according to Mesa. SCEA released a new compilation trailer of some of those titles today.
"At PlayStation, we're proud to support indie development, and our unrestrictive policies make it easier than ever for developers to launch games on PS Vita," Mesa wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "We recognize that the unique perspective that indie developers deliver contributes to the success and future of the gaming industry. And we've learned as much from working with talented indie developers over the last several years as (we hope) they have learned from us."
Sony dedicated a significant portion of its E3 2013 press conference to indie games bound for PlayStation 4. You can read more about the company's indie and self-publishing efforts in Polygon's feature on the "Indie Eight."
