Kickstarter launching in Canada this summer

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

Kickstarter will begin accepting Canada-based projects this summer, the crowdfunding site announced today.

Further details are scarce at this point, but interested parties can sign up to be notified when Canadian residents can start launching Kickstarter campaigns.

Kickstarter is currently available only in the U.S., the service's home country, and the U.K., where it launched last fall. U.K.-based Kickstarter projects are listed in pounds instead of U.S. dollars; presumably, Canadian Kickstarter drives will work with Canadian dollars. Until this point, Canadian residents have had to jump through hoops in order to run Kickstarter campaigns because the service didn't officially support them, so this is great news for our creative friends up north.
