Following earlier reports that social game developer Zynga is closing its Los Angeles, Dallas and New York-based studios, the company reportedly shuttered Draw Something developer OMGPOP as a result.
OMGPOP was considered Zynga New York when it was acquired by Zynga for $183 million in March, 2012. Several OMGPOP employees, such as community manager Joseph Alminawi and VP of outreach Ali Nicolas, today tweeted about the studio's closure and the resulting layoffs. The official OMGPOP twitter account also stated: "While this is the last day at @zynga for many @omgpop staff, we want to thank you for all love and awesomeness over the years!"
The layoffs across the three Zynga locations affects 520 employees. According to an earlier report, Zynga LA-developed Empires & Allies is scheduled to shut down June 17.
Former CEO of OMGPOP Dan Porter left Zynga just several days before the Draw Something 2 launch, which was released in April in the U.S. as a free-to-play app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Polygon contacted Zynga about the closure of OMGPOP and will update this post with more information.
