Skylanders Swap Force launching Oct. 13, will come to PS4 and Xbox One

Skylanders Swap Force will launch on Oct. 13 in North America and is currently slated to hit next-gen consoles as well, publisher Activision announced today.

The game will also launch in Australia on Oct. 16 and in Europe on Oct. 18. Currently the title is slated to hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS. There is currently no given release date for the next-generation console versions.

Pre-orders for the Swap Force figure packs will begin worldwide on June 7, and will include a free Skylanders toy at participating retailers. Starter packs will cost $74.99, while individual figures will $9.99 for core characters and $14.99 for new Swap Force characters.

Activision notes the PS4 version is in development with Vicarious Visions, the studio behind the Skylanders iOS games including Cloud Patrol and Battlegrounds. The Wii version is being developed by Canadian Wii and PC port studio Beenox, and the 3DS version by n-Space, a studio focused on creating ports to Nintendo's consoles and handhelds.

Skylanders Swap Force will allow players to swap the top and bottom halves of 16 new characters to create more than 250 different combinations. Players will meet 32 new characters and set out on an all-new adventure to battle the forces of Kaos. New abilities for Skylanders including climbing, flying and teleporting, and the entire collection of Skylanders figurines from Skylanders: Spyro's Adventures and Skylanders Giants are compatible.
