Angry Birds Star Wars 2 coming Sept. 19

Angry Birds Star Wars 2, a sequel to last fall's Angry Birds Star Wars, is coming to mobile devices Sept. 19, developer Rovio announced today.

Angry Birds Star Wars 2 will follow Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Episode 2: Attack of the Clones and Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. The game will include new character additions to the Angry Birds Star Wars franchise and players can participate as the antagonistic pigs in the new "Join the Pork Side" feature.

Angry Birds Star Wars 2 will also feature integration with Hasbro's Telepods line, which allow players to unlock new features in-game by placing toy figurines in line with their mobile device's camera. Angry Birds Star Wars 2 will have more than 30 Telepods figures available at launch, which players will be able to scan and use to unlock new in-game characters and powers.

In addition to the Telepods figures, Rovio will launch a new line of merchandise for Angry Birds Star Wars this September, which will include toys, clothing, books and other accessories.

"Angry Birds Star Wars was a blockbuster hit for us and Lucasfilm with over 100 million downloads since its release," said Rovio executive vice president of games Jami Laes in a press statement. "We are thrilled to be able to introduce the exciting next chapter in the Angry Birds Star Wars saga to our fans around the world. Some of the most amazing character additions are versions of young Anakin, Mace Windu and Darth Maul. Hasbro's Telepods technology also provides a great way to extend the experience beyond the app and bring a whole new dimension to the gameplay."
