Battlefield 4's launch this fall will be surrounded by tie-in items across a variety of fields, including a novel and an art book, publisher Electronic Arts announced today.

At the top of the list is a Battlefield 4 novel, Battlefield 4: Countdown to War, penned by Peter Grimsdale and published by Orion. The British author also co-wrote the Battlefield 3 novel, Battlefield 3: The Russian. According to Countdown to War's synopsis, it tells the story of a CIA agent named Kovic who's based in Shanghai, which is where parts of the game's single-player campaign and multiplayer component take place.

Agent Kovic is described as a reliable operative but one whose bosses don't trust, and he's about to make a lot more enemies. According to EA, the book will provide backstory for the squad in the campaign. The novel will be available in hardcover and paperback, and is set for release Oct. 24 on Amazon. In addition, Titan Books will be publishing standard and limited editions of The Art of Battlefield 4, which EA said today is a "high-end art book" for the game.

Battlefield 4 branding will also be appearing on items such as gaming peripherals and accessories from Razer, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 controllers by PDP, mouse pads from Qpad, apparel and clothing accessories by Jinx and wall graphics by Walls360.

Battlefield 4 will be released Oct. 29 on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. It will be a launch title on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
