The promotion extends to those who purchase a one-year subscription to Office 365 Home Premium or a four-year subscription to Office 365 University between today and Sept. 28. The suite grants users access to Office programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Users must activate their subscriptions in order to redeem the free year of Xbox Live. Participants will be sent a code that must be redeemed through the official Xbox website or on the Xbox 360 before Oct. 31. According to an FAQ on Microsoft's website, the code is transferable prior to activation.

Currently the promotion is available in most of Europe, Asia and Australia, but according to the FAQ the offer is not available in North America. A full list of available territories and qualifying Office 365 versions can be found here.
