Co-founder and technical director at id Software John Carmack will give a second talk at QuakeCon in addition to his keynote, a “lecture-style presentation” on game physics and lighting, Bethesda Softworks announced today.
John Carmack to give second QuakeCon talk on lighting physics

Carmack will present “The Physics of Light and Rendering” on Friday, Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. ET. Carmack will describe the way light behaves in our real world and the technical work developers put in to making it behave similarly in digital worlds. A statement from Bethesda notes that the presentation is designed more for those interested in computer simulation of lighting, and it is “not for the technically faint at heart.”
Additionally, more than two dozen companies have been added to QuakeCon’s list of exhibitors, including 505 Games, Hi-Rez Studios, Interceptor Entertainment and Nvidia.
Last week, Bethesda announced QuakeCon attendees would be able to play demos of MachineGames’ Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Elder Scrolls Online and Arkane Studios’ third piece of Dishonored DLC, The Brigmore Witches.
Carmack’s keynote will take place on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m. ET. QuakeCon 2013 will take place Aug. 1 - 4 in Dallas at the Hilton Anatole Hotel.
