One-man band covers Grand Theft Auto theme songs

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

Grand Theft Auto games are remembered for their eclectic soundtracks, but they also have some original compositions for main themes, and a YouTube musician has done spot-on covers of the songs.

Going by the moniker of Squid Physics, the one-man band is a talented multi-instrumentalist, playing everything from mainstays such as guitar, bass and drums to string instruments like violin and cello to more exotic fare such as bongos and castanets. He's posted covers of the themes — the songs that play over the games' opening cutscenes — to Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto 4. You can watch the first one above, and the rest below.
