Shiny Legendary Pokemon coming to GameStop, EB Games, GAME

Samit Sarkar (he/him) is Polygon’s deputy managing editor. He has more than 15 years of experience covering video games, movies, television, and technology.

Pokémon fans will be able to obtain three special Pokémon during limited windows at GameStop and EB Games locations across North America and GAME stores in the U.K. starting in August, The Pokémon Company announced today.

The Legendary Pokémon in question are Dialga, Palkia and Giratina, each of which is notable enough as it is. But the promotion will give store visitors Shiny versions of those Legendary Pokémon, an extremely rare classification of the creatures. Interested parties will have to walk into a GameStop, EB Games or GAME store three times if they want all three Shiny Legendary Pokémon, since each of them will be available only during its own window.

Players interested in picking up a Pokémon will have to bring in their Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS, along with a copy of Pokémon Black/Pokémon White or Pokémon Black 2/Pokémon White 2. They'll need to have the Pokédex within the game and no more than 11 Wonder Cards.

Each Pokémon will be available for a three-week period in the U.S., and a fortnight in the U.K. and Canada. Here are the dates for each country:

  • Dialga
    • U.S. (GameStop): Aug. 19-Sept. 8
    • Canada (EB Games), U.K. (GAME): Aug. 30-Sept. 12
  • Palkia
    • U.S. (GameStop): Sept. 9-Sept. 29
    • Canada (EB Games), U.K. (GAME): Sept. 13-Sept. 26
  • Giratina
    • U.S. (GameStop): Sept. 30-Oct. 20
    • Canada (EB Games), U.K. (GAME): Sept. 27-Oct. 11
