Nintendo launching black 3DS XL Aug. 11

Nintendo will launch an all-black version of the Nintendo 3DS XL on Aug. 11, the company announced today.

The new 3DS XL will be released the same day as Nintendo's latest first-party 3DS title, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team. The game features Mario invading a sleeping Luigi's dreams in an effort to rescue Princess Peach, who has been kidnapped for the umpteenth time.

Last week, reports of an upcoming all-black version of Nintendo's handheld system began to circulate when an ad from Real Canadian Superstore appeared offering it for sale. Around the same time, the black 3DS XL was featured in a commercial aired on Cartoon Network advertising Mario and Luigi: Dream Team.

In addition to the recently announced black color, the 3DS XL is available in solid red, blue and pink, as well as two special editions featuring Pokemon favorite Pikachu and designs for Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
